Crim Dell
and its ornate, oriental bridge is reputedly the most romantic setting on any
American college campus. Located at the lower end of the Sunken Garden,
the
wooded enclave provides a respite from the bustle of campus and city. College
president Davis Y. Paschall initiated the landscaping and had the bridge
designed and built in 1966. His words are inscribed on a plaque beside the
bridge: “Here one may walk in beauty, discover the serenity of the quiet
moment and dispel the shadows.” But if you visit, be careful. Tradition holds
that if you kiss your sweetie on the bridge, you will be together forever.
