Getting Around Williamsburg, Virginia

Because the Fife & Drum Inn is located a block and a half from Colonial Williamsburg you can walk everywhere downtown. When you purchase a ticket to the historic area you will have access to the shuttle buses which circulate around the Historic Area and are available on 15 minute cycles.

Williamsburg is not particularly well known for its public transportation but if you do not have a car the easiest way to get around outside the Historic Area is by public bus service operated by Williamsburg Area Transport. The buses run Monday through Saturday about every hour from 6am to 8pm, to 10pm during the summer months. To get to Jamestown/Yorktown take the free shuttle from the Colonial Williamsburg Visitors Center. This ride is available from mid March to the end of October.

Besides easy riding through the colonial area for a leisurely sightseeing excursion Williamsburg has great bike trails for the rider seeking more extreme adventure. The Virginia Capitol trail is very beautiful and challenging. The pamphlet "Biking through America's Historic Triangle" can be picked up at one of the local bike shops. This pamphlet maps many great routes including a 20 mile route past Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown along the path of the scenic Colonial Parkway. Taxi service

Yellow Cab (tel. 757/722-1111) and Williamsburg Taxi (tel. 757/566-3009) are based at the Transportation Center. Historic Taxi (Taxi): (757) 258-7755 is also handy for Williamsburg area locations.
