The William and Mary room celebrates just a few of the aspects of this treasure of Williamsburg, the College of William and Mary.
Having significant ties to the Battle of Williamsburg in 1862, guests will find a rendering of the Wren Building of the College during the Civil War. There is an antique Harpers Bazaar map showing Civil War battles. Mounted on the wall is a long gun, found by the owner’s father hidden in the walls of a farmhouse located next to Fort Magruder on the Williamsburg – Yorktown Road. From more modern times, a watercolor print by former Secretary of State and President Reagan‘s Chief of Staff, Donald Regan, celebrates the annual Fourth of July Ice Cream Social held for over forty years in the Wren Yard. Jim Anthony, father of the owner, was the college’s marching drum major from 1948 – 1952. Later, he formed the William and Mary Alumni Band, which he led on to the halftime field show annually at homecoming for over 30 years. There are several fun photos chronicling this tradition.
The colors in this room are William and Mary green and gold. The four poster bed is topped with a gentle swag of gold. There are cotton monogrammed bathrobes in the antique wardrobe. The bathroom features a wide, roll in tiled shower. As in many European hotels, the sink is located separately in the room. These features are ADA compliant.
The birdhouse cabinet holds the TV/DVD, allowing you to close away any 20th century distractions.
